On January 21, 2003, the University of Florida replaced the Social Security number with a UFID number as the identifier for all faculty, staff, students, and affiliates. UFID is an eight digit number assigned by the university and used as an identifier in university business transactions.

Options
Unit programmers involved in translating identifiers (SSN, UFID, UUID) may choose to utilize mainframe-based API functions directly or may prefer to use Java, perl, C, C++, Visual Basic or other languages to support local systems.
